This Frankincense essential oil comes from the Boswellia serrata tree, a thorny bush in the same family as myrrh and elemi. The resin gum is wild harvested from the trees by incisions that are made in the bark and the gum resin is collected after it has dried for a few weeks. This resin is then steam distilled to produce the essential oil. This species of frankincense is native to India and is the oldest form of Frankincense that we know of, having been written of in the Bible and Ayurvedic texts dating back thousands of years.

It is widely used in natural skincare products and is known for its anti-inflammatory and skin soothing properties. Its aroma is clean and bright, with citrus-like and terpenic top notes. It is warm and slightly peppery with a gentle balsamic dry down. This distillation is more of a top-middle note and does not have the dark, earthy, smoky aspects that some lower quality boswellia serrata oils can display.
