Saffron absolute is one of the most expensive and time consuming absolutes to create. Each crocus flower holds 3 stigmas (threads) and it requires hundreds of thousands of saffron threads to create 1Kg of saffron absolute. This lovely absolute is extracted using hexane-free solvent extraction and then aged for one year.

It's odor is deep, metallic and pervasive, smelling of intense saffron spice, honey, leather and tobacco. It is very concentrated and should be diluted to 1% to 5% before using in perfume compositions.
